Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Financial Aid Processor. This position assists students and parents in completing required documents; processes incoming documents electronically, and assists staff in administering federal and state aid programs. Advises students about financial aid eligibility and application procedures in accordance with individual information, needs or situation; assists students (in person, Skype, email or phone). Provides good customer service; responds to student and parent inquiries accurately and timely. Maintains a working knowledge of all federal, state, and University programs administered by the Financial Aid Office; assists with electronic processing of internal and external forms related to Federal Work Study; represents the Department at special events, orientations, financial aid/financial literacy workshops, open campus days, etc. Assists Verification Specialist in verification of documents and consistency of data; resolves problems related to incorrect data. Manages office social media accounts; answers office emails; processes outside scholarships. Processes SAP Counseling and Appeals; attends workshops and conferences, some requiring out of town travel. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or higher AND one year of experience at an institution of higher education focusing on financial aid and/or student counseling. Ability to disseminate financial aid information, educate staff and administration; and make appropriate referrals. Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to perform four basic arithmetic operations. Must be able to read federal tax returns, wage statements, and determine eligible filing status of applicants and/or parents. Strong motivational skills to create a positive and engaging work environment with a focus on customer service; strong ability to take initiative and follow through to completion all assignments and projects in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and collaborate among staff and management while working independently also required. Background and/or credit check may be required.
