This is a part-time, exempt salaried position with the expectation of about 20 hours a week. This is a ten-month position; June and July off each year. This position requires some evening hours and occasional weekends.

Basic Function

Provide general counseling services including but not limited to assessment, treatment planning, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, psycho-education, and case management, to a diverse student population.

Essential Job Functions

Provide direct clinical services.

Conduct mental health intake evaluations, assessments, triages, consultation, and crisis intervention services. Develops and implements appropriate educational materials to complement interventions.

Provide multi culturally-sensitive counseling and psychotherapy for students with diverse presenting concerns, through individual counseling. Complete required documentation on an electronic health record system, and quality assurance activities including routine monitoring and management of student treatment compliance (i.e., missed appointments, cancellations, etc.) in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Demonstrated skills serving students who identify with one or more of the following clinical and outreach areas: men, LGBTQ+, racially diverse students, International students, student athletes, and/or first-generation students.

Participate in educational outreach and consultation to faculty, staff, students and other health care providers as appropriate.

Facilitates, supports, and engages in special projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in social work, counseling, or psychology and a minimum of 3 years clinical experience with young adults. Licensed to independently practice as a mental health professional in the state of Ohio, or eligible by hire date. The ideal candidate will have experience counseling underserved young adult populations Adherence to mental health professional codes of ethics.

Passion for working with students from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds and dedication to partnering with relevant campus advocates (i.e. Office of Gender and Sexuality, Center for Cross Cultural Engagement, Dean of Students, Community Values and Conflict Resolution) to improve mental health service.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to form strong working/collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff members, and the ability to relate effectively with diverse members of the University community.

Must have a current, valid driver’s license and must be insurable under Denison’s liability insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and knowledge of the unique needs of a student-centered environment.

Therapeutic knowledge and experience treating a young adult population with a broad range of developmental issues and psychological and medical problems including, but not limited to depression, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities and ADHD, parent-child relational difficulties, sexual abuse and assault, bipolar disorder, issues around gender, identity and sexuality, and complex medical diagnoses. Demonstrates knowledge and expertise using a trauma informed approach.
