DESCRIPTION

The Director of Regional Engagement is responsible for the development, management and execution of strategies to deepen the regional pipeline of donors and volunteers. They will lead thoughtful campus leadership and faculty engagement efforts within key markets and build a sustainable presence for the University within target regions.

This will be accomplished through cultivating and managing relationships with UC San Diego alumni in key geographic regions. Will lead a Regional Engagement team and recommend institutional guidelines for prospect development at this stage of the donor development pipeline. Will play a critical role in substantially increasing personal contact with alumni across the globe with the goal of developing a sense of connection to the University through meaningful engagement opportunities that inspires consistent engagement, and annual philanthropic support.

The Director will work collaboratively with the Alumni peers to develop qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies, as well as conceptualization of regional alumni engagement programs. Specifically, the Director will outline multi-year plans to effectively and meaningfully engage alums, qualify them as donor prospects, and solicit them while deepening their propensity for advocacy and volunteer service.

To accomplish the goals and objectives of this critical position, the Director will collaborate with Alumni and Advancement colleagues, the UC San Diego Alumni Board of Directors and University leadership to foster a long-term dialogue that advances the role of alumni at UC San Diego, including annual giving, university development, undergraduate colleges, academic divisions, and vice chancellor areas. They will interact frequently with senior leadership, donors, prominent volunteers and board members. Reports to the Senior Executive Director of Alumni Engagement and serves as an active member of the Alumni Engagement leadership team.

  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven experience developing, managing and executing strategies to creatively identify, qualify, engage, cultivate, retain and solicit prospects.

  • Strong leadership skills, providing vision, motivation and guidance to staff, a diverse volunteer constituency, colleagues and campus groups. Proven ability to coordinate and encourage interaction with diverse populations.

  • Expert knowledge of the principles and concepts of building and maintaining effective relationships with alumni and key constituencies to achieve institutional goals and objectives.

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of general issues in higher education and campus specific issues.

  • Expert knowledge of alumni, internal and external constituencies, including their composition.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of accepted accounting principles and practices and experience in drafting and overseeing a program budget.

  • Strong ability to manage projects and programs to completion, determining priorities and demands of diverse constituents. Ability to set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and take into consideration deadlines, competing requirements and complexity.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex and growing program including skills in planning or supervising the planning of special and cultivation events.

  • Ability to establish professional working relationships and interact effectively with diverse groups having competing interests and priorities within the university and community.

  • Ability to provide direction to staff and manage volunteers in accomplishing established goals and objectives and maintain office activities with respect to established procedures and guidelines.

  • Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with proven ability to persuade colleagues and alumni.
