DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within The School of Medicine. The Division of Dysmorphology and Teratology within the department is involved in four major areas: 1) providing clinical services to patients with birth defects and developmental disabilities, 2) providing public health services in counseling patients, providers and education to the public about prenatal exposures and exposures during breastfeeding and their impact on child development and health, 3) a teaching program that includes undergraduate students, graduate students in epidemiology, medical students, and post -doctoral students, pediatrics, epidemiology, health behavior, global health, pharmacy, and other specialties; and, 4) conducting clinical research.

The Center for Better Beginnings within the Division of Dysmorphology and Teratology in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSD conducts research studies to better understand the causes, prevention and treatment of birth defects and developmental disabilities. Research programs and projects within the Division involve federal, state and industry sponsored grants and contracts totaling over $40 million. These encompass national and international studies that require complex interrelated infrastructure and shared resources both within the Division and with collaborators and subcontractors outside the Division.

Under the supervision of the MotherToBaby California Research Manager and the co-investigator at the University of Massachusetts, the psychometrist will be responsible for observing children; performing standard testing evaluation and recording neuro-developmental data for a large longitudinal pregnancy outcome research project. The incumbent will contact eligible subjects referred for testing, consent, and schedule testing and travel at sites throughout the United States and Canada.

The incumbent will administer, score, code, and manage the data for all standardized tests involved in the infant, preschool and school age, as well as testing for parents, according to established protocols, procedures and documentation rules. Works with other study psychometrists and staff to manage the day-to-day running of the neurobehavioral testing such as scheduling appointments, locating lost subjects, tracking incentives and ensure that follow-up meets critical calendar times to align with research protocols. Performs all functions of respective data management including scoring, data entry and data validation, and maintaining subject records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of biology, human development, psychology, teratology or other science/health related field at a level typically acquired at a Bachelor's Degree; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in administering and scoring standardized psychometric testing, such as Mullen, WPPSI-IV, WISC-IV and WASI.

  • Ability to independently identify abnormal and borderline testing result, both in questionnaire format and face to face testing.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication with adults and children of various ages and various levels of education/backgrounds; professional, respectful and tactful communication with subjects by telephone and in person. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in writing.

  • Proficient computer skills, experience with windows OS, and basic Microsoft software. Experience working with various databases, including web databases, Excel, Access, or other databases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluent in Spanish both in oral and written communication.
  • A Master's Degree in related field.
