Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Institutional Advancement, the Donor Relations Manager manages donor relations, stewardship programs, acknowledgments, stewardship/donor events and communications with donors, including the management of all donor recognition societies. The Manager works closely with Development staff to advance the mission of the department to inform, engage and build investment in all internal and external constituencies.

Specific Responsibilities

• Create targeted strategies and events to steward donors, leveraging the faculty, students, and facilities of the College. Develop effective programs to ensure, foster and nurture productive relationships with donors.

• Supervise programs and activities for stewardship and alumni events, including lists of current members, recognition events and personalized communications.

• Collaborate with development team by providing data for developing long-term strategy relationships with donors.

• Coordinate Development and Alumni Relations communications; serve as a key conduit of information; and collaborate to develop communications that are targeted to donors, prospective donors and additional key constituencies.

• Develop the annual communications plan that enhances the outreach efforts of the department; including web-based communications, direct mail, event marketing and constituent outreach.

• Create and implement a strategic external communications plan for the department, including the website, print and electronic materials, development and public program initiatives, annual reports and speeches.

• Prepare content for communications, annual solicitations, acknowledgments, annual reports, etc.; oversee mailing/distribution of communications materials.

• Serve as liaison with Marketing and Communications department to coordinate communications and marketing needs of the department; advise all departments and staff on communications and public relations issues.

• Design and implement donor surveys for the purpose of refining and improving reports and other donor communications; Measure and analyze results of marketing and communications outreach initiatives to determine effectiveness.

• Develop stewardship plans and processes that lead to additional donor investments.

• Ensure all donors are appropriately thanked in a timely and meaningful way; provide current stewardship matrix.

• Create stewardship reports to educate, engage, inspire and thank top donors for their generosity; manage the production and delivery of stewardship reporting, including annual gift reports to the trustees and Foundation directors, endowment donors, scholarship donors, corporate and foundation donors, etc.

• Manage the writing and production of acknowledgment letters to all donors.

• Assist Associate Vice President to develop and oversee stewardship processes to ensure appropriate and accurate recording, acknowledgement, recognition, and allocation of gifts.

• Maintain a calendar of gift anniversary calls and cards.

• Oversee the planning, coordination and support of the department’s fundraising, alumni and donor events to ensure successful planning and execution.

• Develop event concepts, plan detailed programs, and orchestrate successful logistical arrangements to enhance donor relations program.

• Prepare and manage guest lists, invitations, and arrangements for donor events; manage the budget for all stewardship/donor events.

• Prepare event briefing documents for the President, Foundation leadership and other staff for stewardship events.

• Manage an ongoing calendar of department events and evaluate the opportunity to leverage events and donor interest with other College/Foundation event plans.

• Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

• Assume additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in donor relations, stewardship, communications, and event planning within a college/university or nonprofit organization required.

• Bachelor’s degree required; Any and all degree(s) must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

• Prior experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, familiarity with Raisers Edge or other donor database software, including events management modules.

• Demonstrated commitment to excellence and high standards, including meticulous attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong ability to interact with a diverse and broad range of individuals.

• Must be creative and have excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.

• Strong attention to detail and professionalism.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with volunteers preferred.
