The Grants/Contracts Specialist supports the efforts in researching and obtaining external funding resources for programs and services at the University. The Development Specialist identifies, researches and pursues public, private, corporate, local, state and federal grant funding for sponsored projects, programs, and services of Valdosta State University. Communicates and assists faculty and staff on identifying potential grant opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Completion of bachelor’s degree

4 Years related experience

Credit check

Master’s Degree preferred

Compliance Requirements

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Job Duty

Research/Sponsored Program Development: Cultivates funding opportunities and develops linkages to federal, state, local, corporate, and foundation funding sources for faculty and staff. Conducts online research of potential funding opportunities and distributes those opportunities to the appropriate faculty and or staff. Maintains a database of researched opportunities and of faculty submissions and awards. Assists in the development of and presentation of workshops for faculty and staff in identifying funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, and other aspects necessary for obtaining external funding. Maintains grant development section of OSPRA’s website, newsletter, and blog.

Job Duty

Proposal Preparation and Submission: Assists faculty and staff with the writing of grant proposals by reviewing drafts, including project narratives, budgets, and other supporting documents. Ensures timely approval and submission. Assists faculty and staff in developing and coordinating grant development teams across academic departments and units. Assists faculty and staff in facilitating collaborative partnership proposals with institutions of higher education, public school districts, regional coalitions, and or other entities.

Job Duty

Assists in coordinating professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in the development and implementation of grants. Develop and maintain positive relationships with key individuals in the community and at grant-making organizations that promote the institutions standards/reputation and needs. Assists with the orientation of personnel assigned to manage newly funded projects. Maintains knowledge of local, state, and national politics, policies, and trends that affect grant writing and funding. Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested. Performs other related duties as assigned.
