The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC), established in 1995, integrates research, policy, and programs to advance health and well-being. The center conducts, analyzes and disseminates qualitative and quantitative findings to connect decision makers with the objective research and guidance needed to make informed decisions about health policy and programs. Today the center is at work in more than 220 communities in all 50 states, helping our nation to improve health status. In 2017, the GHPC added a global portfolio, including work in Nigeria, Sudan, and Ireland.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Research Associate (SRA) is a member of multiple research, technical assistance, policy development, and programmatic teams depending on scope of work.  The center’s current scope of work includes health care access, health insurance, health policy, child health and child policy, school health, behavioral health, long-term care, cancer, community health system development, public health systems, social determinants of health equity and Medicaid.  The SRA manages the daily operations of grants and contracts and is also is responsible for developing new work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Management of New and Existing Grants and Contracts:                                                     

  • Serves as project manager by providing administrative and management support to existing contracts and grants.
  • Serves as a member of the team that designs and conducts quantitative and qualitative research to address health related problems and publish results in professional and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Writes reports, abstracts, briefing papers, presentations, and other research-related communications.
  • Facilitates group meetings through the use of meeting design strategies to ensure that meeting goals and objectives are met.
  • Manages meeting goals and objectives, meeting announcements and materials, and reports meeting results.
  • Leads the development of creative solutions to complex health policy issues.
  • Manages research teams by coordinating administrative support, budget management, IRB approval, staffing and client support.
  • Supervising the work of and mentoring staff.
  • Serves as a member of the grant writing team responsible for literature reviews, background information, conceptualization of ideas or other aspects of the grant application process as assigned.
  • External Clients, Community, and Institutional Partners:

  • Maintains existing relationships with external clients, stakeholders and university-wide partners.
  • Communicates learnings from GHPC projects, programs and research to various audiences though policy briefs, academic publications, project reports, presentations and facilitated meetings, etc.
  • Leads meetings and represents the GHPC at national conferences and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Project management, including budget management, relationship building and cultivation, and ability to meet strategic goals and objectives.
    • Research design, including identification, development and execution of appropriate research design strategies.
    • Evaluation, including identification, development and execution of appropriate evaluation strategies
    • Qualitative and quantitative analytic skills.
    • Writing/reporting skills.
    • Presentation and group facilitation skills.
    • Networking skills and aptitude for representing GHPC with local, state, and national organizations.
    • Demonstrated participatory and team-oriented style of interaction.
    • Supervisory, employee training and development skills.


    QualificationsPh.D. with three to five years of experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

    The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
