DescriptionGrade:V12 The MedicalAssistant, in Thoracic Medicine Surgery Department, will assist physicians andnurses in the preparation and delivery of health care to patients by performinga variety of medically related tasks to ensure smooth patient flow. Theincumbent delivers individualized patient care relative to age/developmental,psycho-socio-cultural patient treatment needs. The Medical Assistantwill need to travel to off-site locations such as Fort Washington, Oaks, andChestnut Hill but primary location will be at Temple Hospital. The MedicalAssistant may need towork flexible hours due to assigned facility.
Responsibilities include: taking patients' vitalsigns, weight, and documenting reason for visit in medical chart; administeringpatient injections and performing blood draws; ensuring that exam rooms areprepared for patient visits; obtaining urine specimens, and performing urineand skin testing; delivering specimens and requisitions to the lab andpharmacy; assisting physicians with examinations, and assisting patients to theexamination tables; scheduling lab tests and completing forms for physicianreferrals and hospitalizations; receiving and storing medical and surgicalsupplies; cleaning instruments and operating the sterilizer, as needed; andcalling for and retrieving necessary lab and radiology reports. Performs otherrelated duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Certified Medical Assistant and at least twoyears of experience. RequiredSkills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated familiarity with medicalterminology.
*Demonstrated proficiency in the operations ofclinical equipment.
*Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge ofstandard office equipment.
*Excellent and professional communicationskills, and ability to maintain positive interactions with the patients, theirfamilies and associated medical professionals in a respectful and courteousmanner.
*Excellent organizational skills.
*Must be self-motivated and able to adapt tochange and work under stressful circumstances.
*Ability to work nights/weekends/early morning;and overtime as required.
*Ability to work in an environment exposed tofumes, airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals.
*Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
