DescriptionThe MedicalAssistant, for the Department of Family Medicine at Lewis Katz School ofMedicine, will be assisting physicians and nurses in the preparation anddelivery of health care to clinic patients. The Medical Assistant will beperforming a variety of medically related tasks to ensure smooth patient flowsuch as taking patients' vital signs and weight; documenting health history;recording patient medical information along with reason for visit in medicalchart; administering injections, and performing phlebotomy and skin test. The MedicalAssistant will also be preparing exam rooms for patient visits; ordering andscheduling laboratory tests; completing forms for physician referrals andhospitalizations; packaging and transporting specimens and instruments;receiving and storing all medical and surgical supplies; ordering supplies;cleaning instruments; prepping charts, and creating and maintaininglogs; making calls to patients; and retrieving laboratory reports,ultrasounds, and x-rays. Performs other duties as assigned. RequiredEducation and Experience:MedicalAssistant certification required plus a minimum of two years’ experience as aMedical Assistant. An equivalent combination ofeducation and experience may be considered. RequiredSkills and Abilities:*Demonstrated clinical expertise as a phlebotomist.*Demonstratedfamiliarity with medical terminology.*Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact witha diverse population of patients, their families, faculty, and staff.*Demonstratedorganizational and prioritization skills,along with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven workenvironment. *Demonstratedproficiency in the operations of clinical equipment. Preferred:*Demonstratedexperience on both EPIC and IDX systems.
