The In-Class Tutoring (ICT) Program Paraprofessional Tutor is responsible for providing tutorial support to students in assigned ICT courses, maintaining regular and collaborative communication with ICT program coordinator and assigned faculty member, and upholding standards of attendance, professionalism, and confidentiality to support program compliance.

This position is assigned to HACC’s Lancaster Campus.

Essential Job FunctionsJob Specific Task List

1. Provide tutorial support in the assigned ICT class. This may include small break-out sessions, one-on-one tutoring during revision and peer review sessions, and contributing to class discussions, as deemed appropriate by course instructor.

2. Provide online support to ICT students through an online discussion forum (D2L) and the posting of class notes and other materials, as deemed appropriate by course instructor.

3. Promote essential academic skill development to ICT students and develop and/or reference appropriate support resources and materials.

4. Attend assigned ICT classes or labs and review class materials to stay informed of the specific demands of the course.

5. Communicate with the assigned faculty member to keep them informed of student progress, respond positively to faculty guidance and feedback, and develop a contract with faculty member outlining expectations for the tutor’s role.

6. Participate in a minimum of five hours of tutor certification training upon hire.

7. Participate in a minimum of two hours of ongoing training each subsequent semester.

8. Maintain regular and ongoing communication and attend regular meetings with the ICT Program Coordinator and college personnel.

9. Maintain a log of all ICT activities and submit on a timely basis, assist with reporting and data collection, and assist with surveys and focus groups, as necessary and appropriate.

10. Uphold program compliance, standards of professionalism and confidentiality, and attendance requirements.

Qualifications: Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in the discipline; or Associate’s degree and/or professional license in technical or health care fields.

Licensing Requirements

PA Act 15 Clearances

As a requirement for this position, you are expected to provide current copies of the following: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check prior to your first day of employment. These must have been obtained within the last 60 months and for the purpose of employment (not volunteer). You may submit current copies of your clearances to the Office of Human Resources at the time an offer of employment is made. If selected, information on how to obtain the clearances will be provided to you.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Qualifications: Preferred Experience

- Community college or higher education teaching experience

- Experience in adult development and/or instruction
