The UC Irvine Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to study the cellular and molecular biology of Alzheimer's disease. You will perform experiments to alter the course of age-related metabolic changes in neurons in culture and in vivo from Alzheimer-like transgenic mice under the direction of Dr. Gregory J. Brewer ( and Dr. Charles Glabe ( The NIH funded project examines hippocampal changes with aging that affect Alzheimer's disease. You will discover crucial metabolic interventions to alter the processing of beta-amyloid by single cell fluorescence image analysis, metabolic assays and bioenergetics. The initial appointment will be full-time for two years. Position is available immediately. Renewal of the contract will be contingent on performance and the availability of funding. Note: Total duration of an individual's postdoctoral service may not exceed five years including postdoctoral service at other institutions.

The University of California, Irvine is ranked among the nation's best research institutes with over $90,000,000 in current funding. Enrichment opportunities abound through the AD Research Center, the MIND Institute and the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. Irvine has a pleasant climate, 5 miles from the beach.
