HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

Reporting to the Human Resources (HR) Workday project leader, the HR generalist or analyst will provide generalist and analytical and assistance to assigned functions including employment, compensation, benefits administration, HR communications, etc. Through the critical strategic planning process of Workday Human Capital Management (HCM), this position will help ensure staff data integrity; create and provide reports; establish and maintain organization metrics and analysis; develop or refine HR communications surrounding planning changes; and perform a wide variety of analytical and technical tasks in assigned area of responsibilities in the Office of Human Resources, which includes talent development and environmental, health, and safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform a variety of analytical and professional tasks in business processing including employment, compensation, and benefits administration
  • Maintain confidential HR records, process and verify employee status changes and transfers, and input and retrieve a variety of data and information using a computer terminal
  • Analyze compensation expenses and work with finance to produce quarterly variance reports
  • Produce quarterly staffing reports for the Board of Trustees packets
  • Assist with various compensation surveys
  • Assist with benefits renewal process including analysis of new rates for budget process
  • Interpret related HR policies and procedures and respond to requests for information and data assistance from employees, management, outside agencies, and the public
  • Assist in the review, testing, and implementation of Workday HCM system
  • Develop user procedures, communication materials, and user guides; conduct research on best practice approaches for successful Workday implementations
  • Review policy updates, employment regulation, compliance, and regional HR best practices
  • Perform data entry for new hire information and update existing records as necessary
  • Aid in the coordination of the employee giving campaign
  • Work with payroll to seamlessly coordinate the transfer of HR related data
  • Update documentation and HR website pages and employee engagement material as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Broad based HR generalist experience with competency in some areas such as compensation analysis, staffing, benefits, technology, recruitment, and engagement
  • 1-3 years of progressively responsible professional HR experience
  • Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; Workday or similar HCM experience would be ideal
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information
  • High level of professionalism; strong organizational, communication, and writing skills
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail; accuracy with data entry is essential
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people in a helpful, positive, and constructive way
  • Excellent time management skills; deadline driven with proven ability to manage changing priorities
  • Proven talent dealing with complex issues in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to balance multiple projects, phones, and walk-in customers simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position has significant interactions with the following offices: Information Technology Services, Provost and Dean of Faculty, payroll, finance, and student employment. The HR generalist or analyst may also work with the chief financial officer, supervisors, staff, and other members of the campus community. The HR generalist or analyst will report to the HR Workday project leader and may float in other areas of HR as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
