Job Summary

Eastern Washington University is currently hiring for a Snack Bar Lead-Float position (lead cook) at our restaurant, The Roost, located on our Cheney campus. A cook for this location will prepare food according to established recipes and procedures ensuring that all dishes meet our high standards of quality. Snack Bar Leads direct and participate in the production of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, catering events, concessions and other events for Dining Services. They often work unsupervised and regularly train, assign, instruct and check the work of others. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and food service equipment. They will also be expected to provide excellent customer service and handle cash transactions.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires a valid food handler’s permit and a driver’s license.

This position requires the ability to work evenings, late nights, and weekends.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment

This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Physical Demands

The successful candidate must be able to stand for the duration of their shift and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Two years of food service work, including one year of lead experience, or equivalent education or experience.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of college/university food service experience
  • One year of high volume food production serving over 400 meals per day
  • Culinary degree or certificate
