Job description

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The College of New Jersey seeks two self-motivated, dynamic individuals to serve as Admissions Counselors.

The Counselors will be expected to assist in the recruitment of first-year and transfer students. Duties will include: extensive travel to in-state and out-of-state high schools and college fairs during the fall and spring travel seasons; attending on- and off-campus recruitment events; reading applications for admissions; answering telephone calls; responding to email requests; crafting cohort-specific recruitment communications; and meeting with prospective students and families. Night and weekend work will be required.

The Counselors must have excellent public speaking skills and interact comfortably both in large groups and with individual families. The Counselors must be highly organized and able to assist on year-long recruitment and enrollment projects.


  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree
  • Two-plus years admissions experience as either
    • An admissions professional at a selective, TCNJ-comparable institution
    • An admissions professional at a community college who supports student transitions to four-year institutions like TCNJ
    • A student Ambassador with in-program leadership experience
    • Extensive leadership experience within the TCNJ community.
  • Strong oral presentation skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • A valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three-plus years admissions experience (see above for parameters)
  • Experience recruiting and/or advising multicultural students
  • Strong writing and/or marketing background
  • Experience updating and maintaining web pages and/or social media outlets
