Job Details
Exceptional Children Teachers at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy will plan and deliver instruction designed to meet the individualized educational needs of students based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
Instruction will enable students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Teachers will utilize a personalized student data management system to individualize learning experiences for students designed to help them reach their fullest potential. Ongoing formative assessment will provide necessary data to inform instructional decisions and design appropriate interventions.
Exceptional children teachers at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy will operate as members of the school’s kinship network, extended family unit. The kinship network will support the growth and development of all students. Staff will actively participate as members of professional learning communities with colleagues and faculty from the Watson College of Education.
Detailed Job DescriptionMinimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree;
Valid North Carolina teaching license in middle grades social studies or eligible to hold such license.
List the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position•Demonstrated success working with diverse populations and students who have historically struggled academically and socially;
•Demonstrated evidence of professional development;
Demonstrated growth on the NC Educator Effectiveness Rating Scale or comparable metric that aligns to North Carolina Teaching Standards.
Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experienceMaster’s degree in Special Education or related field;
Dual certification in elementary or middle grades education;
Eligible to hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL);
Experience mentoring pre-service or beginning teachers;
National Board Certified
Primary purpose of the division, department, and/or grantD.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in kindergarten through eighth grades. Our model creates kinship networks, extended family units that support student growth and development. Our learning community is personalized, inquiry-based, experiential, and reflective. Students will learn, thrive, and soar within a framework that integrates project-based learning through quests which allow students to move, depending on grade level, from novice to apprentice to artisan levels through their choice of STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics), creative and performing arts, or civic engagement.
