Assistant Director for Health Promotion, Division of Student Affairs - Georgetown University Main Campus

The Division of Student Affairs supports the academic mission by educating students as whole persons, promoting their intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social formation; enhancing students' learning and helping to prepare them for lives of discernment, civic engagement, and professional growth; teaching personal responsibility and respect for people of all faiths, cultures, and beliefs; promoting the health and safety of students and others in the University community.

Health Education Services (HES) offers health promotion programming and health communication materials for students, aiming to engage students in their own health education by offering fun and interactive programming.

The Assistant Director for Health Promotion is the primary professional staff person providing direction for health promotion and primary prevention programs in Health Education Services at Georgetown University, including designing and implementing health promotion programs for Georgetown students, assessing the needs of the student population through surveys and research, planning and coordinating university-wide health educational programs and trainings. This person oversees the social norms program, which is grant funded by the National Center for Social Norms for the purpose of promoting risk reduction from high-risk drinking in the undergraduate community. Development of health communication materials includes print and social media and web based content.

Duties of the Assistant Director for Health Promotion include but are not limited to:
Provide health education programs to members of the university community as necessary
  • Develop and participate in regularly scheduled training and educational programs.
  • Coordinate programs.
  • Direct students to services as necessary regarding health promotion.
  • Oversee student workers and work closely with Health Hut initiatives and other outreach programs.
  • Serve as Associate Producer and participate as a creative team member for the New Student Orientation Play.

Direct the Social Norms Program
  • Implement and evaluate the social norms program.
  • Supervise the implementation of media campaigns; evaluate survey data assessing effectiveness; create media campaigns promoting risk reduction from high-risk drinking in the undergraduate community.
  • Work with students and members of the university community to develop the program.
  • Focus groups, strategic use of the media for advertising, program assessment are required components.
  • Report on findings to campus community as well as grantor.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Student Engagement, Office of Residential Living, Office of Off Campus Student Life to access student groups and students living in off campus housing.
  • Work with Graphic Design consultant to develop visual images for campaign.
  • Create content for campaign. Supervise student workers for Social Norms.
  • Prepare reports to administration and the community.

Write, design, edit, and produce print and electronic publications
  • Use social media tools to market programs and initiatives.
  • Develop and update numerous brochures and website articles.
  • Revise articles.
  • Manage an up to date web presence for Health Education Services.

Management of HES office
  • Supervise and assist in maintaining budget, mailing, and statistical databases.
  • Monitor budget.
  • Handle procurement and reconciliation.
  • Maintain office equipment.
  • Serve as first contact for visitors/appointments to HES.
  • Supervise 6-8 student workers, graduate students

  • A health professional, certified health education specialist with an advanced degree in public health is required
  • Several years of college health experience is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and expertise in health communications is expected. Attention to detail is essential
  • Skills and ability in educational programming
  • Ability to respond to students in crisis and triage to professional clinical staff members
  • Ability to develop and utilize an array of information and educational methods
  • High level of organization and administrative skills
  • Expertise in health behavior change and health education
  • Experience with Health Communications design and implementation, social media, website development, marketing
  • Fiscal management
  • Supervisory experience of student workers and graduate interns
  • Expertise in Assessment and Evaluation Methods
