Essential Job Duties

The Chief Financial Officer has primary day-to-day responsibility for planning implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities in order for the College to accomplish its Mission. This position is directly responsible for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, and risk.

The Chief Financial Officer is expected to:

- Manage the College’s finances with an overall focus on controlling costs and increasing revenues.
- Develop, implement and evaluate policies for administrative charges, state appropriated funds, capital improvements, consulting services, property management, course registration fees, indirect funds, educational and technology fees, student accounts, distance education, overhead, trust, discretionary and endowments.
- Serve as liaison with the University Budget Office and other accounting related offices, and manage the fiscal year closeout.
- Plan, budget, and analyze institutional and program budgets.
- Ensure the creation and maintenance of financial records/reports, management controls, and accountability to achieve stated goals.
- Supervise full range of fiscal affairs, including financial planning, accounting systems/procedures, structures/controls, budget development, management, cash flow receipts and expenditure monitoring, compliance, and auditing.
- Evaluate strategies for optimal management of financial information and direct implementation of integrated financial management systems.
- Prepare and maintain reports for various state and federal agencies.

The Assistant Dean will report to the Dean and will serve on the Dean’s management team, Executive Committee and participate in overall planning and policy-making for the College.

Other Work/Responsibilities

- Develop systems and procedures that guide faculty, program directors and administrators in financial management.
- Create standard models for developing budgets, billings, and expense/revenue reports.
- Provide timely and accurate financial information to internal and external users.
- Manage extended leadership team of 150.
- Serve on senior leadership committees.

Minimum Education/Experience

- Master’s degree and at least 8 years of progressive experience with financial oversight in a large/complex organization, preferably an academic unit.

- Demonstrated experience in staff management and leadership.

Departmental Required Skills

- Experience in role(s) responsible for budget planning, financial management, resource allocation, and business services for current and future operations.

- Ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and professionally both orally and in writing with clients and colleagues.

- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and managerial abilities with a demonstrated capacity for leadership initiative and teamwork.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

- Experience with financial oversight in a large/complex college or university. Candidates with experience at NC State or other institutions within the UNC System are encouraged to apply.
- CPA designation is preferred but not required.
