The Urban Design program at theUniversity of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) is seeking a part-time, non-tenuretrack Clinical Faculty to serve as Director. The intended start date for theposition is August 2019. We invite applications for a .25 FTE position. Candidatesmust have a terminal, accredited degree and demonstrated urban designprofessional experience to include teaching, professional practice activity orservice.

About the Urban Design Program

The Master of Urban Design (MUD) isan intensive, calendar year, post-professional degree program for studentsalready holding a first professional degree in architecture, landscapearchitecture or urban and regional planning. The interdisciplinary program usesDenver as an urban laboratory but the globe as a reference, educating futuredesigners about the unique place the city holds in addressing the criticalproblems of our time.

Job Responsibilities

The Director of Urban Designposition will be responsible for assisting CAP in the direction, management,and strategic planning of the Master of Urban Design program in the College ofArchitecture and Planning, University of Colorado Denver. This position willreview curriculum, course scheduling, provide student support and advising,oversee admissions, and program finances. The position will also be engaged inteaching, research, and service at CAP and will have a primary emphasis onteaching related to professional practice, as well as research and creativework that enhances professional growth. The course delivery expectations forthis position will primarily be in the Urban Design program, butinterdisciplinary opportunities based on expertise are available. 

Examples of Work Performed

  • In conjunction with the Dean of the College of Architecture and Planning, actively participate in program decision-making and planning through establishing goals, strategies, procedures, and processes for the Urban Design program.
  • Develop a vision for the Urban Design curriculum; ensure that the vision and activities are aligned with the mission of the College and contribute to program accreditation and assessment efforts.
  • In collaboration with Urban Design faculty and Admissions Coordinator oversee the admissions process including application review and final student decisions.
  • Coordinate course offerings (including Extended Studies), scheduling, and faculty assignments in coordination with department chairs if assignments from other programs.
  • Overall program administration, which might include, but not limited to: scholarship application and criteria development, financial report review, course scheduling and faculty hiring.
  • Working with the CAP Communications and Marketing Manager, develop and implement strategies to communicate with existing and potential students about the Urban Design program.
  • Contribute to development of a marketing plan; alumni outreach strategy, website updates, and associated literature and materials for the Urban Design program.
  • Oversee program budget, and develop strategies for revenue generation, in collaboration with the CAP Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a terminal, accredited degree in architecture, landscape architecture, planning and/or urban design.
  • Demonstrated urban design professional experience to include teaching, professional practice activity or research
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience preferred.
