Executive Director of Multicultural Learning & Engagement - IWU-National & Global

Position Summary:

Impact organizational culture.Address the felt needs of students.Serve as a catalyst for higher education and for business.Join us at Indiana Wesleyan University to lead in the creation of a healthy, dynamic community of learners, guided by our mission and data-driven realities.Tackle these primary responsibilities by being a:

  1. Culture Influencer – with a primary focus on helping shape the organizational culture on issues related to diversity and inclusion, the Executive Director will also be asked to work on the larger organizational culture team.This will include facilitating leadership development initiatives.
  2. Strategic Networker – this is not just an inward-focused position. The Executive Director will represent the Chancellor at key events and will network with a broad range of community leaders and key stakeholders.
  3. Collaborative Team-Builder – in a unique position to help build bridges across departments and impact thousands of students each year, the Executive Director will provide data and best practices around cultural responsiveness in our curriculum and in our departmental interactions.
  4. Data Geek – good, solid data will allow us to make informed decisions as the Executive Director will partner with our IWU leaders to strengthen our student and employee-centered decisions.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Chancellor of IWU-National & Global with a “dotted-line” reporting relationship to the VP of Diversity and Inclusion.

Education Requirements:

Master’s degree in a related field of multicultural studies, doctorate preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Promote diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion for IWU-National & Global toward the community becoming more culturally responsive. Oversee efforts to conceptualize, define, assess, and cultivate diversity as an institutional imperative, with guidance from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, for all aspects of IWU-National & Global. Work with the Chancellor’s Cabinet members and other leaders in establishing multicultural competence across IWU-National & Global and in relation to the university’s mission. Provide oversight and coordination of the Diversity Strategic Plan for IWU-National & Global and in concert and support of the University Diversity Strategic Plan and The Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Represent the IWU-National & Global, as well as IWU, externally as a liaison, through community involvement.Develop working relationships with multicultural groups and organizations to achieve objectives of mutual interest. Develop co-curricular diversity and intercultural programming events on all regional campuses that raise awareness of multicultural issues from a biblically grounded and theologically sound perspective, and connect students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds in an effort to encourage dialogue, increase understanding, and result in reconciliation. Conduct research and prepare recommendations for improvement in employment practices and learning environments for IWU-National & Global.Serve as a resource to IWU-National & Global academic and operational leadership regarding recruitment and leadership development of diverse talent. Advocate for students served by IWU-National & Global from diverse cultural backgrounds on matters related to their academic success. Assist, when necessary, to ensure investigation and resolution of harassment and discrimination complaints.Consult with legal resources as appropriate. Collaborate with Human Resources and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to collect and analyze data that provide information useful to support and enhance diversity initiatives, as well as monitor diversity retention trends for academic and operational units in IWU-National & Global. Collaborate with IWU-National & Global Marketing in order to creatively communicate and promote diversity perspectives internally and externally. Consult with students, student-led groups/organizations, faculty, and staff on matters related to cultural awareness and responsiveness. Partner with IWU-National & Global offices in facilitating professional development workshops for faculty and staff related to issues of diversity, intercultural effectiveness, and cultural responsiveness. Travel regionally to connect with distributed employees and promote the National & Global culture. Serve as a member of IWU’s Multicultural Enrichment Council. Serve as a committee member on the Chief Diversity Officer’s Diversity Steering Committee.

Qualifications:
