General Health Services. The Nurse Practitioner provides patient care to the University students and eligible community members.

Essential Functions:

•Works in collaboration with and under the direct and indirect supervision of a physician, utilizing mutually approved written protocols.
•Provides primary health care to university students and eligible members of the university community of all ages in the form of primary prevention, health education, assessment and treatment of health problems in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and rules and regulations established by the state of Georgia.
•Develops a plan of care and treatment that meets the patient needs, educating them on health maintenance and illness prevention practices.
•Performs technical procedures such as venipunctures, intravenous fluids medications, wet mounts, incision drainage of wounds, dressing changes, suture removal, sutureing, stapling, gluing burn care, EKG, cryo-therapy, obtaining cultures, nebulizer treatments, and making referrals, if necessary.

Shift Specifics: up to 30 hours per week; to be scheduled on a part-time, PRN or as needed only basis.

Temporary employees are employed according to departmental need and the length of time will vary by workload and may not exceed 1300 hours worked in a 12-consecutive month period.

Minimum Education Required

Undergraduate degree (BSN) from an American Nurses Association approved Nurse Practitioner training program, or equivalent, to meet state licensure; a graduate level degree (MSN) (unless grand-fathered in) with an associate’s degree or RN diploma as established by the Georgia Board of Nursing, American Nurses Credentialing Center; hold national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or National Certification Corporation; in good standing, hold licensure as a Georgia State Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner; hold certification in BLS and CPR; active or eligible for DEA registration and prescribing privilege.

Working knowledge of all common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages, state health care laws, licensing, board regulations, and prescribing regulations; familiarity with less common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; ability to develop written reports in a clear and concise manner; use electronic medical records; manage time efficiently and effectively; perform accurate and thorough physical assessments including pap smears, STD screenings, breast, prostate, and testicular exams; document concise, appropriate, significant information related to the patient; successful completion of the background investigation process prior to employment and a urinalysis prior to and throughout employment.

Preferred Experience

One or more years of post-graduation/certification experience as a practicing APRN in Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care or Primary Care within the last five years.
