The Academic Support Writing Coach assists students in the developing of their written and communication skills through a combination of face-to-face guidance and online support. The position is responsible for determining student writing needs, strengths and deficiencies based on instructor guidance, assignments and assessments. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

•Advises, coaches and documents students’ progress in the development of their writing skills and departmental course requirements
•Develops and provides orientations to students on writing support services, including face-to face and virtual support systems
•Facilitates and guides the use of supplemental writing support services
•Provides instructional and technical support to students on academic software, subject databases, materials and discipline tutorials as needed
•Works closely with Learning Resources staff to integrate existing services to students
•Provides support to faculty in the assessment and diagnosis of students’ writing needs, strengthens and deficiencies
•Collaborates with faculty in developing and implementing writing support materials and services
•Provides support to faculty in the evaluation and selection of instructional software, hardware, materials (print and non-print) for programs of study related to writing
•Assists in the development of skill analyses, surveys and writing assessment
•Compiles and analyzes data; prepares reports as necessary
•Supervises, trains and manages Writing Support Assistants
•Performs duties as assigned.

•Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication, ESL, Education or related field with two (2) years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication, ESL, Education or related field with six (6) years of experience
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
•Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office and database software applicable to the department
•Knowledge of instructional/tutoring practices related to developing writing skills in a higher education environment
•Knowledge of instructional software and writing assessment related to developing writing skills in a higher education environment
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
•Ability to speak effectively to employees, faculty, staff and community groups
•Ability to multitask and prioritize
•Knowledge and understanding of training and education principles
•Skilled in project management and able to meet deadlines
•Ability to read and interpret documents and procedures manuals
•Ability to analyze and summarize data and write reports
•Ability to supervise others and make decisions
•Ability to think to solve problems and think critically
•Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations and work collaboratively with students, faculty and administration
