 Federal Work Study Teaching Assistant/Peer Mentor-IWC

Saybrook University’s College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (CIMHS) is seeking a Federal Work Study Teaching Assistant to support administrative and instructional activities within the Integrative Wellness Coaching program.

Under the direction of Program Director, the Teaching Assistant-Peer Mentor will work closely with adjunct faculty and students enrolled in the certificate, master’s degree, and specialization programs in Integrative Wellness Coaching. 

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:                                          

  • Participating in informational videoconference calls with prospective students.
  • Supporting new students acclimate to their new program.
  • Performing quality assurance checks in the Canvas course before the term begins.
  • Following up with administrative tasks such as assisting with syllabi revisions, updating supplemental materials.
  • Co-facilitating online discussion forums and videoconference calls with lead faculty instructor.
  • Identifying current research articles and topics within field of lifestyle medicine and health and wellness coaching. 
  • Co-leading residential conference training sessions once per academic year.
  • Providing additional support and feedback to students as they practice coaching skills.
  • Coordinating peer practice coaching sessions
  • Conducting academic group coaching sessions via videoconference once per semester. 

Position Requirements

  • Commitment to spending approximately 5-15 hours per week contributing to course related tasks and mentor-coach activities.  Examples include
    • Participating in three 90-minute faculty mentoring meetings throughout the academic year,
    • Submitting work hours in Workday each week.
    • Reporting weekly activities via email to the Program Director.
    • Attending a monthly supervision meeting with the Program Director.

Position Qualifications

  • Earned a CIMHS certificate in Integrative Wellness Coaching.
  • Must be actively enrolled in a PhD MBM or PhD Psychology degree program at Saybrook with documented history of strong academic excellence.  Demonstrated via faculty feedback and online participation:
    • applied research papers,
    • coaching practice sessions, and
    • quality of discussion forums responses.
  • Comfortable managing videoconference technology and the online learning environment.
  • Past online teaching or group supervision experience is preferred.
  • Recognized by Saybrook faculty for leadership potential.
