General Summary of Position:

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is looking to hire a part-time Staff Nurse/LPN in Health Services. The position will be for 15 to 18 hours per week during the academic year. The Staff Nurse/LPN will be responsible for providing professional, developmentally appropriate, culturally competent, evidence based, confidential, high quality health care to students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell facilitating their personal and academic success.

Essential Job Duties Listed Below:

Coordinates immunization requirements for students

  • Responsible for ensuring student compliance with state required immunizations
  • Maintains current knowledge of changes in Massachusetts immunization requirements and revises health forms as needed
  • Reviews health forms of students for compliance on an individual basis and maintains accurate database of immunization records
  • Accurately interprets complex medical records often in languages other than English and provides for the translation/interpretation of immunization data in languages other than English
  • Administers vaccines and/or titers as needed
  • Documents and maintains accurate immunization records for students on an individual basis in EHR
  • Develops and implements specific strategies to enhance student compliance

Coordinates Tuberculosis requirements for students

  • Reviews individual health records for tuberculosis risk factors
  • Administers and interprets Tuberculosis skin tests and IGRA tests
  • Documents result in EHR, makes referrals, and formulates plan of care as needed
  • Reports positive test results to appropriate authorities
  • Ensure student compliance with plan of care

  • Minimum Qualifications (Required):

    Education:

    • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing

    Certification/Licensure:

    • Current R.N./L.P.N. licensure with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
    • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 1-3 years of professional nursing experience

    Skills:

    • Strong nursing assessment skills
    • Proven ability to manage a multiple patient case load to maintain daily patient flow
    • Knowledge of college immunization requirements
    • Experience effectively working with a culturally and ethnically diverse population
    • Demonstrated ability to triage
    • Proficient phlebotomy skills
    • Knowledge of risk management, medical ethics, and medical-legal liability
    • Knowledge of HIPAA/FERPA laws
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Basic computer literacy

    Additional Considerations:

    • Experience working in college health and knowledge of the health needs of the traditional and non-traditional student preferred

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using EMR, Medicat preferred

    This is a temporary, part-time, non-benefited, non-unit position (18 hours per week).
