Basic Function

Maintaining a quality, comfortable and safe environment for students, faculty and staff by utilizing knowledge and experience as a journeyman tradesman, providing timely response in support of the college mission; provide support in the administration of contracts that are in force at the campus, helping to ensure contractors comply with Federal, State, and College regulations and procedures through supervision, inspection and evaluation of contractors.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Exercise independent judgment in applying prescribed policies, procedures and technical knowledge in these areas.
•College technical advisor on electrical matters and evaluate contracted electrical work.
•Maintain electrical equipment and systems correct problems, and perform new electrical installations in compliance with National Electrical Code.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s license with insurable driving record.
• High School graduate or equivalent OR combination of education, training and experience.
• Education or training related to contract preparation, codes, and procedures
• Knowledge of and experience working with blueprints, diagrams or sketches.
• Journeyman trade license or equivalent.
• Experience with residential and commercial wiring

Preferred Qualifications

•AAS Electrical Technology
•Prior experience in Educational facility.
•Computer experience preferably with building management systems and maintenance management software.
•Has training in variable speed drive maintenance and repair.
•Has experience in high voltage maintenance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Thorough knowledge of electrical theory, methods, practices, terminology, tools, and materials used in electrical maintenance
•General knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NPFA 70E, NFPA 72 and OSHA
•Thorough knowledge of the safety hazards of the work and of the necessary safety precautions
•Ability to troubleshoot and make repairs to complicated electrical wiring, electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment.
•Skill in 3 phase AC electrical background necessary, including use of test equipment.
•Skill in the use of electrical maintenance and repair equipment.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
•Exceptional customer service skills; demonstrated experience interacting and developing relationships with internal customers.
•Ability to multi-task and complete work orders in a timely manner.
•Ability to interact and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, faculty, students.
•Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
•Ability to tolerate change and continuous learning
•Ability to respond to emergency maintenance repairs and safety issues on an on-call basis.
•Essential personnel to participate in snow removal & other duties and able to work any required shifts.
•Ability to work special events in evenings and on weekends such as graduation, etc. as needed
•Experience in several trades, primary trade electrician.
•Ability to work from heights and ladders.
•Ability to operate bucket truck and lifts.
•Knowledge of building codes; demonstrated ability to evaluate contractors’ performance; interpret and apply guidelines to specific actions.
•Ability to lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
•Ability to work in both hot and cold weather for long periods of time.
•Knowledge of working with blueprints, diagrams or sketches.
•Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout campus, including climbing stairs in all campus buildings, and to work at heights.
•Report to work or remain at work during inclement weather and/or other campus events or emergencies
•The ability to use electrical test equipment and small hand and power tools, such as wrenches, drills, soldering irons, volt-ohmmeters, amp meters, circuit testers, and vacuum and pressure gauges.
•Computer literacy.
•Near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision are required in order to make electrical connections, solder and splice electrical wiring.
