Departmental Overview
The Division of Data Science and Information is a newly formed Division at the organizational level of our Colleges and Schools. The Division's dynamic structure connects computing, statistics, the humanities, and social and natural sciences to create a vibrant and collaborative environment to accelerate breakthrough research across scientific and technological frontiers. The Division includes Data Science Education, the School of Information, the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and Statistics, the Berkeley Institute for Data Science, and the Data Science Commons. The Division offers programs of interdisciplinary research and teaching at significant scale, and it is continually developing new pathways and programs to advance its mission on campus and beyond. It is fundamentally committed to core Berkeley values of equity and inclusion in the service of society.
The Division is responsible for growing Berkeley's broad-based data science education program, including classes and programs serving thousands of undergraduate students a year. It includes a BA degree in Letters & Science and a new minor. It is responsible for supporting the campus-wide data science education program, including a foundational introductory course, Data 8, which serves over 3,000 students annually and is rapidly growing, together with dozens of connector courses, advanced courses serving thousands of students, and a portfolio of co-curricular programs.
This position will play a critical role in the success of advising for the new division. We are looking for a dedicated, student advisor who has the capabilities and desire to work in the midst of evolving priorities and demands and to support students in Data Science, with majors expected to be in the hundreds.

Responsibilities
The Division of Data Sciences is committed to providing excellent support for a broad student population within the Division and across the campus. We are looking for a high-performing student services professional whose values align closely with the Division's spirit of internal and external collaboration and Berkeley's values of equity, inclusion, and public service.
Academic Advising: Serves as first line resource support for current and undeclared undergraduates on divisional policies and requirements, faculty, academic resources, undergraduate research, mentoring, tutoring, scholarships, internships, and career planning resources; refer students appropriately to staff, faculty and campus units for information and assistance. Provide general advice to students on academic and major requirements, alternative academic options and similar issues.
*Reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions; advises visiting international and intercampus students.
Student Conduct: Interprets campus policies and advises students and faculty on student conduct, student grievances, disputes, and issues
Outreach and Events: Assists in the planning and implementation of outreach programs with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; utilizing in-depth knowledge of the organization's admissions criteria.
*Plans, designs and provides workshops for students, such as information about the division and campus, or academic strategies and enrichment programs.
*Assists with the Planning and implementation of high-visibility student events, such as commencement, Golden Bear Orientation, CalDay and symposiums or workshops.
Program Coordination:
Develops relationships and assists in development of processes with other UCB Colleges in order to effectively advise Data Science students. Prepare reports as needed.
Professional Development:
Maintain professional development and update working knowledge of student affairs administration through attendance and participation at campus and other training sessions, seminars, conferences, and events and active membership in campus and professional organizations, and networking with peers.
