Departmental Overview
The Academic Innovation Studio (AIS)—part of Research Teaching and Learning Services (RTL), under the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education—brings together instructors, researchers, graduate students, and academic partners to support and advance teaching and research. The AIS hosts workshops, dialogues, trainings, and communities of practice; offers consultations and drop-in services; and fosters cross-campus connections and exchange.

The American Cultures (AC) Center is a crucible for faculty development and cross-campus activities in support of the core undergraduate curriculum. Faculty work with the AC Center to develop new course content, create assignments, partner with community organizations, and engage in conversation with colleagues around the complicated teaching and learning of critical diversity issues. The AC Center hosts a substantial volume of faculty engagement, directly working with over 150 faculty each year in its curriculum development efforts. Through its long and well-respected history, the AC Center has become the connective tissue for campus faculty.

The Adobe Fellows program is a collaboration between the Academic Innovation Studio and the American Cultures Center, with strong support from Digital Learning Services, Educational Technology Services, and the Library. Adobe Fellows supports faculty and students to incorporate digital design tools into the Berkeley academic experience in meaningful, intentional ways that enhance teaching and learning and strengthen the university's public mission.
