Buena Vista University, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Admissions. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director will be responsible for the strategic development, implementation, tracking, and evaluation of all University activities in student recruitment and enrollment. The position of Director of Admissions represents the key leadership component and opportunity at the University to grow its residential undergraduate population within an enrollment management environment. The Director serves as an important part of the enrollment management leadership team.
The University and the Storm Lake, IA community: Founded in 1891, Buena Vista University is a coeducational, independent, and regionally acclaimed comprehensive University, which offers a blended professional and liberal arts curriculum. Home to approximately 1,850 undergraduate, online, site, and graduate students, BVU offers more than 45 academic majors. BVU students experience small class sizes, where they receive individual attention from supportive faculty.
Buena Vista literally means “Beautiful View.” It offers an inspiring, lakeside setting in which to learn and create new and long-lasting friendships. Storm Lake’s downtown area - just a few blocks from campus - is bustling with new businesses, tasty restaurants, and shopping. The lake offers locals and visitors the opportunity to enjoy miles of bike trails, water sports, incredible fishing, and a waterpark resort unlike any other in the state. Lakeside concerts and events, golf courses, community organizations, and K-12 activities keep residents entertained all year long.
The Position: The Director’s position will require both broad oversight as well as a hands-on management style, including a working knowledge of current best-practices in student recruitment, data-driven admissions forecasting, strategic management of financial aid and financial aid leveraging practices, and exceptional CRM expertise. Collaboration throughout the University on all matters concerning enrollment of first-time freshmen and transfer students is required. He/she will provide leadership in designing the University’s enrollment strategies and is expected to make sophisticated use of high-quality, data-driven, evidence-based enrollment decisions, utilizing best practices in admissions and enrollment management, while inspiring others on campus to work collaboratively in achieving enrollment goals. Additionally, the Director is involved with establishing and maintaining a collaborative recruitment and enrollment environment between the Strom Lake and the Online/Site enrollment counselors. The new Director must be innovative and adept at promoting current academic programs, as well as bringing forth recommendations for new recruitment ideas, marketing strategies, and academic programs that match the University’s mission, resources, and market demand.
Qualifications: To be considered for the position of Director of Admissions, the ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree, six (6) years of progressive admissions responsibilities, extensive leadership experience in admissions within an enrollment management partnership environment, and a sophisticated understanding of enrollment strategies, market research, social media, admissions, financial aid, and student information systems. Analytical ability, excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with faculty, students, alumni, and administrators across the entire University community is important.
