Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. Incorporated in 1889, Merced offers historical sites, affordable housing, access to the Bay Area and Sacramento, and is the Gateway to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra mountains as well as home to the University of California Merced campus. In alignment with the District Educational Master Plan, the Instructional Support Technician III will work with science faculty to support labs for science courses offered at the Merced College Los Banos Campus. The Los Banos Campus is the newest campus in the Merced Community College district with courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Physics currently being offered. As the enrollment at this campus continues to grow new science courses will be added to the list of offerings with the ultimate goal of scheduling a full suite of non-major's and major's courses. A proactive and innovative candidate who is interested in growing with the camus will best fit this position. This position requires an organized person who enjoys working collaboratively with science faculty to help establish new science courses. General Description:
Under direction, to perform a variety of instructional and clerical duties designed to free the instructor from routine, ancillary and preparatory work associated with an educational program or discipline. The focus of the duties is not only on assistance to the instructor but to the student as well.

Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
  • Orders, receives, issues and maintains supplies, tools and equipment
  • Duplicates written materials
  • Prepares classroom or laboratory setups
  • Assembles demonstration materials
  • Assists students on projects
  • Performs clerical and recordkeeping functions
  • Repairs tools and/or equipment
  • Keeps instructional areas clean and orderly
  • Trains and oversees student assistants

Knowledge of:
  • Role of the instructor in the educational process
  • Fundamentals, terminology, techniques, materials and equipment used in the instructional area to which assigned

Ability to:
  • Use, demonstrate and maintain the specialized materials, instruments, tools and equipment of the subject matter specialty
  • Speak, read and write standard English
  • Understand and to make advanced mathematic computations
  • Work with a minimum of supervision and with a high level of knowledge in the field to which assigned
  • Cooperate with others


Typical Qualifications
Required:
  • Baccalaureate degree from an acceptable accredited institution, in a field related to the program or discipline to which assigned or
  • Two years of college and three years of experience in the field to which assigned
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Interview Information: Those applicants deemed most qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee.
