Berkeley Law is committed to providing one of the best suites of financial aid programs of any top law school in the country. The Financial Aid Office helps eligible students obtain grants, fellowships, and scholarships based on need and/or merit, as well as an array of federal and private student loans.
The Associate Director of Financial Aid provides financial aid information and advising to prospective, current, and graduated law students; determines and adjusts students' financial aid packages that include grants, scholarships, fellowships, and loans; advises current students and graduates about developing an effective student loan repayment plan.
This position oversees aid processing and projects in collaboration with other departments, and administration of programs; anticipates student needs, facilitates and resolves financial aid delivery problems and administers private loan activity
The incumbent will report to the Berkeley Law Director of Financial Aid. Responsibilities Analyzes an array of factors (income, student loan and other debt. employment, career goals) and applies knowledge about the LRAP, federal, state, University, and outside agency laws, regulations, and policies to develop and provide extensive advising services and information to prospective, current, and graduated students about the LRAP and the federal government's complex loan repayment strategies, policies, and procedures.
Determines and advises students and graduates about the best use of LRAP in relation to federal student loan repayment options.
After analyzing inquiries and determining relevant issues, provides information and/or recommendations needed to resolve issues or complex problems pertaining to participation the LRAP and the repayment of student loans.
Incorporating the above analysis, reviews LRAP applications and advises applicants about eligibility for the program. Exercises professional judgment in situations where policy is open to interpretation.
Advises current and prospective students on loan options for financing an education at Berkeley Law.
Prepares and submits payment and cancellation (forgiveness) requests for LRAP forgivable loans by working collaboratively with law school and campus units.
Reviews and reports on changes in federal student loan regulations and that may affect the LRAP. Interprets regulations and recommends changes in the LRAP, specifically as it relates to the program's policies and procedures
Recommends resources and changes to policies, procedures, and organizational structure needed to accommodate growth; implements acquisition or development of agreed upon resources and changes.
Maintains LRAP fiscal reporting structures for further program evaluation.
Maintains and updates manual and online content for the LRAP and advisory services.
Prepares assessment methods and survey tools to perform systematic and ad hoc analytical studies on the LRAP which is complex in nature.
Collaborates with law school and campus staff to determine best means of providing effective student activities, programs, and services as it relates to loan repayment and the LRAP
Serves on law school and campus financial aid office committees or participates in meetings pertinent to addressing issues such as outreach and delivery activities the LRAP.
Serves as LRAP expert on Berkeley Law's Financial Aid Committee.
Creates content and coordinates distribution of LRAP information for prospective and current students and graduates through various means of communication.
Determines needs and creates educational tools pertinent to loan repayment, financial literacy, and the LRAP.
Develops content for and leads presentations at information sessions on subjects such as managing personal finances and minimizing student loan debt while attending law school in order to avoid excessively large student loan portfolios.
The Associate Director collaborates with Database Specialist and Information Security & Technology (IS&T) to; Develop, maintain, and utilize database elements, queries, and reports needed to administer the LRAP; Communicate updates to the systems used to administer the LRAP, including application forms and databases.
Leads and oversees student workers' assigned tasks. Trains student employees on basic advising and office functions; maintains procedure guides for such functions and recommends process improvements.
Participates in staff development and training as assigned. Attends webinars and training sessions to maintain knowledge and awareness of federal aid regulations that affect the law student population.
Other duties as assigned.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel as well as internet and email applications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Access preferred.

Aptitude for learning new technologies, such as University-specific computer application programs.
Prior experience with student financial aid and billing systems.
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Working knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs, such as SIS Campus Solutions Financial Aid and Student Financials modules.
Knowledge of Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Working knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.
Prior experience with student financial aid and billing systems.
Experience with Loan Repayment Assistance Programs.
Experience counseling individuals on student loan repayment strategies.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $64,000.00 - $70,000.00.
