JOB PURPOSE:


Reporting to the Director of Development, Diversity and Next Generation Giving, plan and implement a specific fund-raising program for the university, focusing on diverse communities, building a portfolio and pipeline of donors for leadership annual giving and major gifts. Operate independently in assigned areas and take responsibility for prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities. Work with staff, donors, volunteers, and other university staff to assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse alumni constituency.


MAJOR GIFTS:


University Major Gifts is a department within the Office of Development at Stanford University. It is comprised of regionally focused field staff who work throughout the United States to build and maintain relationships with Stanford alumni, parents and friends to advance Stanford's mission. Staff in Major Gifts collaborate with their colleagues in the schools and units, principal gifts, and The Stanford Fund to coordinate activity with donors and potential donors.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Working with Major Gifts, The Stanford Fund and other units and the schools, begin to develop strategies to identify, prioritize and manage a portfolio of assigned prospects/donors focusing on diverse communities and next generation donors.

  • In consultation with the Director, develop solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for fundraising projects. Cultivate and solicit gifts to the university.

  • Partner with the Stanford Alumni Association as appropriate regarding engaging alumni from diverse communities.

  • Incorporate Field Qualification activities for the university and schools and units as appropriate, in consultation with the Director.

  • Design programs and manage appropriate appeals (e.g., direct mail, email, video, phone, and other channels), to best engage diverse communities and track progress toward a major gifts pipeline, beginning in the top three markets of Northern CA, Southern CA and New York.

  • Make volunteer assignments as appropriate, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.

  • Work closely with other colleagues in development to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization.

  • Track, analyze, and report on overall results of development activities to internal and external constituencies.

  • Other duties may also be assigned.


To be successful in this position, you will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience/effectiveness in fundraising in a higher education environment including prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation is preferred.

  • Proven ability to work efficiently, juggle tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and achieve goals.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with a wide range of people, including those from diverse communities.

  • Outstanding communication skills and exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external constituents
