Academic Program Professional 1
Stanford University
Job Number: 83744
Job Code: 4111
Job Grade: H
Stanford University is seeking an Academic Program Professional 1 to work under the direction of faculty to help implement and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the academic portion of the JIMB program (see jimb.stanford.edu).
This unique position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to drive broader scientific impact than a standard research position would offer. You will join a new program that is synthesizing partnership among .com, .edu, and .gov to establish the scientific infrastructure for a vital bioeconomy.
Metrological principles have transformed the development of technologies in the physical sciences; JIMB seeks to foster a similar transformation in the biological sciences, specifically in those in which massively parallel measurement of molecular entities is performed on heterogeneous biological systems. The combination of parallelism with the inherent heterogeneity of biological systems, and the requirement of diverse measurement modalities (e.g., DNA sequencing, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, DNA synthesis), demands novel solutions for obtaining integrated insights.
The successful candidate will work closely with Stanford faculty and trainees to advance measurement science in genomics and synthetic biology in training and research. Specifically, (s)he will manage training program content and organization; assist in development and teaching of a graduate course in biometrology; develop scientific meeting content and organization; develop and broaden JIMB's scientific portfolio in collaboration with participating faculty; foster collaborative relationships among faculty groups and with researchers at NIST and other government agencies; drive connections of Stanford faculty and trainees with commercial technology developers; and assist in research proposal development and writing. This position provides a tremendous opportunity for the successful candidate to learn and substantively engage with the amazing array of academic inquiry in genomics and synthetic biology at Stanford and JIMB's government and industry partners.
