The School of Humanities & Sciences (H&S) is Stanford's largest school, with 23 departments and 23 interdisciplinary programs spanning the core of humanities, arts, languages and literatures, social sciences, mathematics, and physical and life sciences.


The development coordinator will report to the Associate Director of Development in H&S External Relations, a unit within the Office of Development. S/he will provide administrative and routine support to fundraising programs and activities. Working with front-line fundraising staff, donors, volunteers, and other university staff s/he will assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with all university constituencies.


Your responsibilities include:


  • Provide project and administrative support to a team of three development officers and the Associate Dean of Development.

  • Draft high-quality donor correspondence

  • Prepare briefings for the dean and gift officers

  • Become proficient in the use of the Office of Developments external donor databases to be able to input and retrieve data and generate reports

  • Process gifts using Stanford's Oracle-based Gift Transmittal system as well as use the system to research gift funds and generate reports.

  • Review and track funds and report on use of gifts.

  • Build a network of relevant contacts, and stay informed on current university initiatives and activities.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of events and donor cultivation, as needed.

  • Process receipts, invoices and reimbursements for the department.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:


  • Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Knowledge of database systems, such as Microsoft Access.

  • Ability to work efficiently, juggle tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and achieve goals.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people.

  • Outstanding communication skills and exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.

  • A strong desire to work in a development environment and a willingness to learn about the Development Life Cycle (prospect identification—research—cultivation—solicitation—stewardship).
