Inclusion, Diversity and Equity

Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):  With special attention to the needs of traditionally underrepresented groups (e.g., low-income, first-generation, transgender, gender non-conforming), partner with Smith leadership to help shape, design and facilitate equity and inclusion programming across Smith for students, staff and faculty. Perform outreach to Smith constituencies, the local area, and beyond by being available in person and communicating via website and social media. Collaborate with the VP for Equity and Inclusion and key stakeholders, including those under the Provost’s Office, the Dean of the College and Human Resources. 

 

 

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Collaborate with other staff in the Office for Equity and Inclusion and across campus to design and implement programming to assist faculty, staff and students in creating an inclusive campus community. 

 

 

 

Provide outreach, advice, and resources to Smith constituencies and beyond in person and via website content maintenance and social media communication to promote a culture of change and shared commitment to achieving the strategic objectives in this area.

 

 

 

Develop an outreach/communications plan to integrate and carry out these efforts. Collaborate with other college departments on issues, news and events.

 

 

 

Promote programs and stories from across the college to varied audiences, including current and prospective students, faculty and staff at Smith and in the Five Colleges, other colleges and universities, and alumnae.

 

Develop metrics for measuring the effectiveness of Smith’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. Establish goals and monitor progress. Report results to senior management.  Support areas by creating plans to remedy deficit areas.

 

Maintain current knowledge of programs of diversity and inclusion, including via contact with professional organizations and learning conferences.

 

 

 

Perform other duties as assigned in order to ensure success of diversity and inclusion initiatives.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/ Experience: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required plus a minimum of three years of related experience, including preparation and implementation of training materials and diversity initiatives or an equivalent combination of education and experience; master’s degree preferred.

 

 

 

Skills: Demonstrated commitment and successful track record in event programming. Skills in web design and site maintenance, as well as social media savvy. Ability to connect with students, staff, and faculty -- especially those from traditionally underrepresented groups. Ability to analyze data to inform decisions about programming and resource allocation. Experience in justice frameworks, social justice education and restorative practices would be an asset.
