Job Summary:
The Residential Life Coordinator is a live-in member of the Campus Life and Housing team and assists the Director with daily program operations by directly supervising all residential staff. Charged with shaping the environment and experiences for students living in the residence halls, this role oversees services and programs which focus on learning outcomes connected to academic success, effective community engagement, interpersonal development and cultural competency. The Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance, direction, and support for the overall mission, vision, and goals of the residence life program at the NWCCD – Sheridan College, reporting to the Director of Campus Life and Housing. On campus housing is provided.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
- Supervise the Resident Assistant team (18-20 students)
- Advise the Residence Hall Association
- Collaborate with custodial staff and oversight of residence hall cleaning schedule
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree in student affairs, education, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience as a member of a residential program is preferred.
- One year experience working with non-traditional or at-risk populations in the capacity of advising, counseling, education, housing, res life, or mentoring.
- Prior experience working for or in collaboration with Educational Opportunity Programs or Diversity Initiative Programs, such as TRIO is preferred.
- Having overcome similar barriers or come from similar backgrounds to the target population for TRIO is preferred (first-generation college student, lower socioeconomic status, veteran, person with disability) or Spanish speaking.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Utilizes a personal computer and computer software to include Adirondack’s The Housing Director and MS Office products. Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for creating reports and documents.
- Is able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills including social perceptiveness, service orientation, negotiation, instruction and coordination. Is able to promote an inclusive environment.
- Demonstrates personnel management skills including motivating, developing and directing people. Proficient at both oral and written communication. Also proficient at complex problem solving, inductive and deductive reasoning, and problem sensitivity.
- Ability to work with/support non-traditional, at-risk college students while challenging students to promote their individual growth.
