Under the supervision of the Senior Director of the USD Career Development Center, provide leadership, oversight, and direction of all assessment efforts for the Career Center. Develop assessment strategies that allow the Career Center to quantitatively and qualitatively measure desired learning outcomes and evaluate primary programs and initiatives. Utilize valid and reliable research methods to gather, analyze, and report data to both internal and external constituents. Primary areas of focus for data analysis include: immediate post-graduation career outcomes of students, large career fairs, Torero Treks, mentorship programs individual counseling appointments, employer satisfaction, and mandatory professional development programs.
Under the guidance and consultation of the Senior Director, co-leads office strategic planning efforts. Working with the Career Development Center leadership team, the Assistant Director for Assessment and Planning guides the development and execution of the Career Center Strategic Plan, collaborates in the planning of the semi-annual staff retreats, systematically tracking progress towards completion of identified goals though TracDat, communicates with other campus partners, and creates the Career Center's annual report in collaboration with the Senior Director and the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication. Supervise Technology Resource Analyst and undergraduate student workers on initiatives to improve office efficiencies in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Employer Relations and Operations. Oversees and enhances technologies, builds digital student resources, and maintains the online employer job system in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Employer Relations and Operations. This position receives supervision from the Senior Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and Assessment
Oversee assessment of three mandatory career readiness programs for undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences (Compass Program), the School of Business (Passport Program), and the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (Connect Program).
Develop and implement assessment strategies for Career Center initiatives such as individual counseling, workshops, events, online resources, and other programs.
Support the data collection and analysis needs of various colleagues within the Career Center. Translate data analysis into information directly useful in policy and program decision making.
Obtain Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for applicable Career Center projects.
Administer focus groups and surveys to identify the career development needs of students and alumni and make recommendations for strategic initiatives and programming.
Compile and analyze student and alumni usage of Career Center programs and online resources.
Prepare Career Center research and assessment findings for presentation in written, verbal, and electronic formats, including printed and published materials.
Update annual Career Development Center assessment plan in TracDat.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director, create reports communicating outcomes, trends, research and data to campus partners such as the Provost's Office, Deans, and Student Affairs.
Communicate updates with Institutional Research.
Participate on committees as needed, sharing outcomes and data with campus partners.
Track progress towards completion of the Career Development Center's multi-year strategic plan.
Serve on the Career Development Center's Strategic Planning Committee.
Create measureable, desired student learning outcomes with staff members for their respective programs and initiatives.
Serve on the University Outcomes Committee to determine best practices for disseminating career data across all campus partners, such as Alumni Relations, Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of the Provost, and individual school leaders.
Manage relationships between the Career Center and the Office of Institutional Research. This includes exchanging data and ideas for research projects and looking for ways to improve data collection techniques across campus.
Serve as the office liaison to other campus offices in collaboration with the associate director as partnerships are developed and strategies are defined.
Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and budget of office technologies and vendor products. Exercise direct supervision over the office Technology Resource Analyst. Maintain Salesforce database, which include event and student information.
Sets and meets professional objectives that enhance the Career Center and maintain the professional reputation of the department and the university. Serves as liaison to professional associations to stay abreast of current developments in data management, assessment, career counseling and employment trends (Association for Institutional Research, National Career Development Association, Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers, National Association of Colleges and Employers,).
Encourages updated policies and procedures to maintain Career Center professionalism and to best serve constituents.
Advanced Degree in higher education or relevant field required, with a minimum of 2 years training and/or experience in statistical research methods and data analysis. Substitution: Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience.
Demonstrated ability to conduct large-scale database analysis and survey research in an applied setting, including development of instruments, creation of meaningful variables, sampling, content and timing,
Ability to present data in a meaningful way to non-technical audience. Superior proficiencies in writing, editing, and proofreading to produce top quality reports, promotional materials.
Strong communication, organizational and time-management skills and proven abilities to establish and maintain collaborative relationships that are successful.
Advance technical literacy in Microsoft environment, including, Access, Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
At least two years of progressively responsible experience in higher education that included exposure to academic/administrative assessment and required a demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of assessment and evaluation processes.

Superior writing skills to present complex data and information to a variety of audiences, from career services and university colleagues to students, parents, and the general public.
Demonstrated ability to work with an Institutional Review Board or similar entity
Experience in managing staff or student workers
Demonstrated strength in interpersonal skills to work with a diverse body of students, staff faculty, administrators and community members.
Evidence of superior presentation skills to present career information to small and large groups.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement projects with complex logistics involving multiple task and priorities.
