Oregon State University’s Human Resources team is expanding our strategic capacity! We seek experienced human resources business partners to build our new HR Strategic Partner team.

The HR Strategic Partner (HRSP) is responsible for translating organizational priorities into defined actions for attracting, developing and retaining talent critical to the success of an assigned client group. The HRSP serves as a key consultant and trusted advisor to executive leadership. The HRSP maintains literacy about clients’ financial operating position, organizational plans and overall culture. The HRSP formulates partnerships and works in collaboration with university stakeholders and leadership to deliver strategic, value-added people solutions to leadership and employees that reflect the vision, mission, values and goals of the organization. The HRSP acts as a change agent while delivering integrated HR solutions

. University Human Resources is seeking multiple Human Resources Strategic Partners.

These are fixed-term, 1.0 FTE professional faculty positions. Reappointment is at the Chief Human Resource Officer’s discretion.


Position Duties

20 % -Business and HR Strategy

• Participates as a member of clients’ leadership teams to help ensure strategic goals are being driven through the organization.

• Supports client organizations’ culture, including employee engagement, to enable a talented workforce that contributes to strategic goals.

• Analyzes workforce trends, metrics and analytics. As a steward of talent, provides insights on functional depth of talent, retention, succession planning and facilitates workforce planning.

• Provides consultation and advice for organizational design, change management, and implementation including employee impacts.

• Onboards executive leadership for supported clients.


20%- Change Management

• Acts as a change agent to accelerate the development of people, teams and organizations.

• Partners with HR Centers of Expertise to design and deploy best in class programs for the organization.

• Drives change through process and metrics-driven management.


20%- HR Initiatives and Business Cycle

• Facilitates client participation in university HR initiatives and activities such as contract renewals, performance appraisals and merit cycles.


20% -Management Development; Coaching

• Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and their leadership teams.

• Assesses training and development needs for supported clients; collaborates with trainers or delivers training.

• Provides coaching and training to supervisors.

• Participates in evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs and key initiatives.


20%- Employee Relations

• Partners with Employee & Labor Relations

• Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

• Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to leadership (coaching, counseling, and performance management processes).

• Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.

• Works closely with management and employees to improve relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.


Minimum/Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in field relevant to assigned responsibilities and 5 years’ experience providing human resource consultation and strategy OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

• Demonstrated experience leading broad organizational development initiatives.

• Significant demonstrated experience defining and leading change management programs.

• Proven history of helping leaders attract, retain and develop high performance teams.

• Proven ability to influence high-impact decisions, provide critical feedback, and lead difficult conversations.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze various data and make linkages across complex organizational or business concepts, strategy, structure and processes.

• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

• Demonstrated understanding of compensation strategy.

• This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.


Preferred (Special) Qualifications

• Human resources consultation experience in a nonprofit environment such as government or education

• Human resources experience in unionized environments.

• Experience as a facilitator and/or trainer of adult learners.

• Current HRCI or SHRM certification.

• Change management certification.

• Project management certification.

• Organizational development certification.

The starting salary rate within the range will be commensurate with education and experience.
