Community Engagement Coordinator

The Community Engagement Coordinator at Parkland College will work in collaboration with the faculty Service-Learning Coordinator and the Community Engagement Advisory Council to support the integration of service-learning into the curriculum, to support service-learning and volunteerism events and programming, and to promote service-learning and volunteerism for students, faculty, and staff. The Community Engagement Coordinator is a part-time, 19-hour-per-week or less position with a pay rate of $16.26/hour. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Essential Job Functions:

·Serve as primary coordinator and contact for the Parkland College Center for Community Engagement.

·Recruit, train, assess, and retain Parkland student tutors participating in Garden Hills Elementary Homework Club.

·Help assess the Garden Hills students enrolled in the Garden Hills Elementary Homework Club.

·Recruit, train, and supervise tutors participating in the Project READ adult learner tutoring program, both on and off campus.

·Co-Coordinate events; such as Volunteer Fairs and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service events.

·Co-Create the Parkland College Community Engagement e-newsletter twice per semester.

·Update and maintain the two Service-Learning websites.

·Write and co-write grant proposals.

·Represent Parkland on the planning committee for the University of Illinois Community and Campus Day of Service.

·Co-coordinate the Alternative Spring Break program at Parkland.

·Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

·Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

·Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

·Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.

Preferred Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree.

·Experience working with extracurricular programs.
