Information Services Librarian

The Information Services Librarian works as part of a team responsible for providing reference and information literacy services to a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.

The Information Services Librarian is a 50% time, 215-day, Part-Time Faculty appointment with a potential start date of August 5, 2019 and a pay rate of $25,22/hour. Application will remain open until filled.

Reports to the Information and Electronic Services Librarian and may receive additional assignments from other librarian faculty. The Information Services Librarian delegates tasks to and supervises student employees. Schedule includes evening hours and some weekend hours. Staffing changes occasionally necessitate an altered work schedule. The Information Services Librarian must be able to work independently, accurately prioritize tasks, efficiently serve patrons, and make appropriate decisions.

      Answer in-person, online, and telephone reference questions and requests for research and course workPlan and present information literacy sessions in a wide range of subject areasLead library orientationsPrepare resources tools and bibliographiesPerform collection development functionsPromote and market the libraryTroubleshoot computer and library equipment when neededFacilitate interlibrary loan requestsSupervise library operations as neededServe on library teamsServes as a liaison to one or more academic departments Collect usage statisticsParticipate in professional development activities to represent the college and stay current in the field Perform other duties as assigned

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited institution.
    • Full range of reference skills with both electronic and print resources.
    • Strong public service orientation with excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Creativity and commitment to implementing innovative library programs, methods and technologies.
    • Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse and dynamic team environment while upholding the highest standards of competency, professionalism, and integrity in all work, demeanor, and in communication with others.
    • Functional ability in Microsoft Office Suite applications with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and library-specific programs as technology changes.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous library instruction experience
    • Teaching experience
    • Supervisory experience
