Overview

The communications specialist will work at CSML to produce high-quality written content that promotes research and news, reaches key audiences with messages and stories that raise the center's visibility, and reinforces Princeton's reputation for excellence in research and teaching.

Responsibilities

Writing high-quality content tailored to CSML's channels and audiences. Posting content to the website, incorporating related photos and/or graphics. The specialist will work with the center's director and assistant director to prioritize story ideas, but is encouraged to develop content ideas. Applying smart, strategic communications approaches to achieve the center's goals. Managing social media outreach across relevant platforms. Other responsibilities as needed, which may include promoting e vents, taking compelling photos and videos, executing successful e-mail marketing efforts, and applying basic design principles within commonly used web publishing environments. Coordinating with the Office of Communications, Office of the Dean for Research and others to share ideas and content with broader communications potential. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required, plus 1-3 years work experience.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Attention to detail and customer service are key.
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle responsibilities, meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Organized and expert problem-solver.
  • Creativity and curiosity in approaching assignments. 
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and also as part of multiple teams. 
  • Ability to constructively edit others' work. 
  • Proven success in managing projects.
  • Demonstrated science-writing experience with experience writing and translating research for scientific peer and lay audiences. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft desktop applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), web publishing (e.g., Drupal) and social media platforms.
  • Experience in a university setting.
