The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Intern reports to the Women’s Basketball Head Coach and will have a second report relative to the secondary duty of game management, outside of the basketball season. The primary responsibility is to assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the women’s basketball program. The typical length of the Intern position is a 1 year appointment, renewable up to three years.
•Identifying and recruiting quality student athletes in concert with the academic mission of the University.
•Assist in developing and maintaining positive team culture and chemistry.
•Mentoring and counseling student-athletes.
•Assisting in planning and conducting practices.
•Assisting in scouting opponents and developing game strategies.
•Assisting in travel planning and making travel arrangements
•Fundraising and community service activities.
•Developing a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport.
•Developing and maintaining a thorough and continuing familiarity with all applicable University, Landmark Conference, and NCAA regulations.
•Represent the WBB Program, River Hawk Athletics, and Susquehanna University in a positive and professional manner.
•Game day responsibilities.
•Outside of season game management responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Strong organizational, time management, oral, written, teaching, and computer skills. Detail oriented. Ability to set priorities, advocate team concepts, work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Ability to work collaboratively with others. Ability to frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, and/or quickly.
Bachelor’s Degree required as well as a valid driver’s license.
Must possess the physical stamina to effectively coach the sport. Position requires the ability to move about the campus and the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle and reach. Requires frequent walking and occasional stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires occasional lifting and pushing. Working conditions are indoors and outdoors.
Desire to pursue coaching as a career is expected. Basketball coaching or playing experience is preferred.
