The Information Technology Services Division is a strategic partner to the executive team in achieving the goals of the university. The Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services and Chief Information Officer reports directly to the Chancellor and is a member of the Chancellor’s Council. IT services are highly centralized at UNCG, with ITS providing and managing all of technology services consumed by students, faculty, staff and visitors. This structure affords amazing opportunities for technology leaders to research, launch and implement ideas that have a lasting positive impact on the university.Position Summary
The CDO will work in close collaboration with research and academic programs, as well as administrative groups and institutional data stewards to establish an enterprise data road map and data management processes that enable information sharing, collaboration, compliance and security, and efficient resource management.
The CDO will:
> Define, develop and implement an enterprise data strategy that is focused on increasing the value of University data assets and supply the organization with data required to achieve strategic goals.
> Leverage the data strategy to facilitate development of innovative forward-facing capabilities that provide long-term competitive advantage.
> Build the necessary infrastructure and policies to increase campus wide accessibility to data for analytics, reporting, and open data publishing and encourage a culture of data driven decision making.
> Serve as a facilitator to traverse divisional silos, create synergies between functions, and align shared efforts to enable measurable business outcomes.
> Set the strategy and vision for UNCG’s approach to transformative data opportunities and drive the identification of new opportunities through more effective and creative use of data.
> Identify new partnerships and provide leadership for a broad range of initiatives and projects that align with UNCG’s strategic plans.
> Engage with city and county government leaders, local businesses and other community partners to develop an open data model that establishes the University as a regional data intermediary.
> Develop and manage an open data platform and data sharing agreements designed to accelerate research, stimulate economic development, and improve quality of life for residents.
•Mid to late career with Masters and 2 to 4 yrs experience; Bachelors and 3 to 5 yrs experience; or equivalent education/experience.
•Major in computer science, information technology, business or public administration, or related disciplines.
•10 plus years of experience in managing the ingestion, transformation, movement, sharing, governance, and quality of data and information.
•10 plus years of senior level management experience in a large-scale enterprise.
•Demonstrated ability to work with and influence multiple, diverse, cross-functional teams.

Develop a comprehensive data management strategy that establishes a uniform set of definitions, standards and governance practices to ensure consistency and standards for data collection, formats, hygiene, sharing, integrations and storage.
