The Senior Associate Director serves as a member of the senior leadership team within the Office of Admissions. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, recommending, planning and executing recruitment strategies related to a wide portfolio of on-campus visitation activities. This position reports to the Director of Admissions and consults periodically with the Vice Provost of Admissions & Financial Aid. Additional responsibilities include management of a designated recruitment market, review of applications for admission, assisting with the hiring process for exempt and non-exempt level positions and participation in the daily admissions office schedule of responsibilities. The Senior Associate Director requires a deep knowledge of college recruitment and typically 6-8 years of progressive experience in college admissions or a related environment, including the ability to analyze and interpret data to support decision-making.

Accountabilities:
  1. Serve on the senior leadership group in the Office of Admission and supervise exempt staff
    • Assist in the creation of annual recruitment strategies that establish priorities and goals related to first-year enrollment objectives
    • Advise and update senior leadership group on strategies and outcomes related to on-campus visitation events, including use of data to evaluate the efficacy of all related events
    • Recommend improved recruitment strategies to affect and impact performance in domestic recruitment territories
    • Mentor and team-build across the organization, including writing quarterly and annual performance appraisals for supervisees designed to provide constructive and supportive feedback
    • Assist in staff hiring process when necessary
  2. Develop and plan a portfolio of campus visitation opportunities for prospective high school students
    • Manage and advance a variety of campus visitation options for prospective first-year students that provides deeper exposure to the key Lehigh signatures
    • Implement and manage data-supported analysis to measure the effectiveness of the full campus visitation portfolio
    • Supervise a visitation team within the admissions office that executes the visitation strategies, including management of daily assignments, interaction with key campus stakeholders and creation and distribution of visitation surveys designed to evaluate the performance of all events; occasional involvement with programs will occur, but the expectation to assign and execute all events is paramount
    • Plan signature matriculation event(s) during the month of April that provides maximum exposure to admitted students with the intent of improving overall yield in meeting anticipated class enrollment target
  3. Manage a defined domestic recruit territory, review applications for admission and engage with professional organizations
    • Plan and execute a travel plan during the fall and spring semesters that engages with a number of high schools to recruit prospective students
    • Forge partnerships with high school guidance counselors, representatives of community-based organizations, and independent counselors to promote the university’s strengths to prospective students
    • Participate through membership with various regional and national admissions and enrollment organizations designed to expose recruitment trends, demographic shifts, and new and best practices in college admission; familiarity with the role that financial aid plays in these strategies is expected
    • Engage with prospective students from an assigned domestic recruitment territory through a variety of sources: email, written communication, phone interactions and email campaigns; this engagement will expand periodically to include parents/guardians of prospective students and other external constituents who act on behalf of high school students
    • Review applications for admissions according to office training directives and protocols and recommend final admission decisions in keeping with University standards, priorities, and goals
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Five to eight years related work experience
  3. Progressive experience in higher educational admissions with supervisory experience is preferred
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Excellent writing ability and organizational skills
  6. Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  7. Solid presentation skills
  8. Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software
  9. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification

  • This position has fiscal or financial responsibilities other than employee expense activity, such as processing or approving transactions; monitoring or preparing budgets; or generating income for University
  • This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required

  • Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours
  • Occasional travel; typically five to six weeks of recruitment travel in the fall and up to two weeks in the spring
