The Assistant Football Coach assists the head football coach with providing vision, leadership and oversight for current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, alumni and parents. The Assistant Coach also serves as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) NCAA Division II Football Program in accordance with the guidelines established by the department, FVSU, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the NCAA.
This is a fulltime, 12-month position that reports to the Head Football Coach.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Abide and comply with all applicable NCAA, SIAC, and FVSU policies, rules and regulationsAttend practices and gamesDevelop weight training plans for the football program Provide individual and small group instructionAnalyze game/practice videos Coordinate, identify, evaluate, and actively recruit prospective students including scheduling on-campus visitsAttend meetings with the coaching staff and individual student-athletesStrive to build and strengthen cross-campus relationshipsAssist Athletics Department with fundraising endeavors Perform summer duties and special projects as assigned by the Head Football Coach or Director of AthleticsOther duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree Three (3) years coaching experience Experience as a college football player Strength and Conditioning, CPR and First Aid certificationValid Driver's LicenseDemonstrated knowledge of NCAA and SIAC rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functionsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administration
Preferred:
- Master's degreeExperience coaching at the collegiate levelExperience recruiting student athletes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work collaboratively with departmental and university personnel and administrationDemonstrated ability to participate in public relations activities, to include television and radio interviews, and press conferences, as appropriateDemonstrated ability to handle high levels of stress and anxiety
Working conditions
- Travel required during playing season and recruitment seasonEvenings, weekends during playing season and recruitment seasonWorking outdoors
Physical requirements
- Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period of timeLift or carry up to 25 poundsMust be able to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead
