The Systems Administrator, Virtual and Identity Infrastructure, is the primary individual responsible for the management and administration of the College’s virtual, storage, and identity systems. In addition, this position oversees the IT area’s approach to systems security and malware protection, as well as managing the development of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan. This position provides technical leadership for Anti-Virus/Malware protection or the Enterprise, and occupies a central role for the planning and deployment of emerging technologies.

A. Educational Background: Minimum of an Associates’ Degree in a computer related area is required; Bachelor’s degree is required within five years of employment at FLCC.

B. Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience with VMware, administration of Unix or Linux based systems, Windows Server, Active Directory, LDAP, and networking is required. One years’ experience with Identity Management and single sign-on techniques required. Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager (FIM), Rapid Identity from Identity Automation, Microsoft Office 365 or Microsoft Exchange strongly preferred. Experience in an educational environment, Ellucian Colleague, support of instruction, e-mail, desktop/laptop computing and web services is also desirable.

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for providing design, implementation, management and support of the College’s clustered virtualization systems. Serves as a resource and project designer for additional imports of stand-alone servers into the clustered environment.
  2. Develops and serves as primary system administrator for virtual server and desktop infrastructure, including physical host systems, SAN and networked storage, hypervisor and management software.
  3. Develops, deploys and maintains College-wide identity management services, (ensuring compliance with SUNY federated identity standards), SAML, LDAP and Student Active Directory domains.
  4. Serves as the primary administrator of the Office 365 suite of products for the campus.
  5. Serves as the backup Linux system administrator for the Colleague system.
  6. Serves as primary system administrator, responsible for data security and operational integrity of servers that house Enterprise and vendor-supported applications.
  7. Provides project design and support services college-wide for identity management, software deployment, centralized desktop customization and resource provisioning.
  8. Ensures the security and operational integrity of IT resources through the oversight of an internal security program involving minimum password parameters and forced resets.
  9. Enforces IT policies regarding use of the systems and data, and recommends changes as necessary.
  10. Serves as the chair of the Information Security Program Team (ISPT).
  11. Develops and maintains an updated Disaster Recovery Plan for IT Infrastructure.
  12. Works with IT Infrastructure Specialist and JR IT Systems Programmer in managing the College’s Storage, Server, and Cloud Infrastructure, and in the delivery of VMware and related support services. Provides appropriate training and documentation to those positions to ensure back-up coverage for Infrastructure management and use of VMware for disaster recovery or other situations where this position is unavailable.
  13. Interfaces with the Network Administrator in supporting core network and infrastructure services to include UPS’s, network backbone servers and WAN connectivity.
  14. Participates in planning, developing and implementing goals and projects in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures.
  15. Responds to Helpdesk calls by providing direct support to students, faculty and staff in the use of relevant e-mail, web and other resources. Recruits, trains and supervises student workers as needed to support relevant IT services.
  16. Plans and manages the budget requirements for the clustered IT infrastructure functions. Ensures the purchasing of equipment necessary for the periodic replacement and upgrade of clustered infrastructure as well as necessary supplies.
  17. Serves as Deputy ISO for the institution and as Security Administrator for SUNY Portal access.
  18. Serves as an effective team member in the Information Technology Division.
  19. Other duties as assigned.
