Endowed Professor and Director of Maternal and Child Health

The University of Kansas School of Medicine -Wichita is seeking a talented leader for its growing programs in Maternal and Child Health and Population Health. The successful candidate will lead Maternal and Child Health programing for the tri-campus Department of Population Health and serve as Vice-Chair for the department, directing Population Health program activities on the Wichita campus.  They will work closely with all departments in Wichita which intersect with mothers and children: Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Our growing departments in Wichita support more than 6,000 new deliveries each year and provide referral services for maternal and child health for two-thirds of the state of Kansas.  This position includes an endowed chair, which will support work across departments and campuses to develop and advance maternal and child health research, services, and training.  The Vice-Chair will collaborate with existing faculty focused on access, health disparities and outcomes in the domains of nutrition, infant mortality, maternal health, smoking cessation, rural health, and public health practice.  They will be successful in promoting collaborations across departments and across campuses, in addition to further enhancing strong existing collaborations with state and local public health. They will play a critical role in ensuring the department’s ongoing commitment to our graduate education programs, including our Masters in Public Health and our Masters in Clinical Research.  

This is a full-time position at the Professor or Associate Professor level. If desired, opportunities exist for complimentary clinical practice and academic appointment in the Department of Pediatrics.

Qualified applicants should have a PhD or MD/DO degree with appropriate training and experience in Maternal and Child Health.  Strong candidates will have expertise in health services research, public health, maternal and child health, or implementation science.  We are seeking applicants with a demonstrated track record of funded and published research using interdisciplinary collaborations.  Applicants must show potential to secure extramural funding as demonstrated by prior procurement of grants and/or contracts. Evidence of effective teaching in courses related to the Department’s degree programs is required, along with the potential to supervise and mentor graduate students.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate clear potential for training and mentoring junior faculty.  All candidates also must be well-suited to working both individually and collaboratively within a dynamic, inter-disciplinary environment.
