The Department of Nuclear Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering. We are the only nuclear engineering program in the state of North Carolina and one of the premier departments in the southeast United States. The Carolinas currently contributes to the advancement of the nuclear enterprise regionally, nationally and internationally. Through collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, NC State’s Nuclear Engineering Department is increasing its footprint on the national and global level. With an increasing faculty population and research areas/projects, there is greater opportunity for learning in the broad areas of fission reactor engineering, radiation applications, nuclear materials, computational science, plasma science, radiological engineering and fusion engineering.

Essential Job Duties

“Exceptional candidates will be considered at the Associate/Professor level, however focus will be at the Assistant Professor rank.”

Tenure-track faculty position in the area of plasma science and engineering. The Assistant Professor is responsible for research and education activities in the plasma science and engineering research thrust area of Nuclear Engineering Department. The position prepares proposals to fund the research described in the previous section and guide MS and PhD students in research related to the above areas. Teaching responsibilities involves teaching classes on undergraduate level including Introduction to Nuclear Engineering and senior design projects. On graduate level it is expected that the new faculty member will develop courses related to her/his area of research.

Minimum Education/Experience

Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

Departmental Required Skills

Requires doctor’s degree, and post-doc and research faculty experience

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Undergraduate engineering, engineering physics or physics degree, and PhD degrees in Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Physics or Physics.
