Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year experience working as a clinical research nurse.

Position Summary

Works independently to coordinate, implement, and evaluate clinical research trials, studies and projects. Provides direction in the development of research protocols. Recruits and screens potential study participants, develops and conducts patient and family education accordingly. Independently approves all study order sets from a nursing and subject safety perspective. Performs patient evaluations, administers medications and research instruments, and provides nursing support to perform specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Makes referrals to in-house or community professionals and serves as a clinical resource. Collects data, assists in developing data collection systems and compiles reports. May provide infusion duties. Develops and approves unit nursing policies and procedures. Assists in writing research grants, publications in medical and nursing literature, study materials, brochures and correspondence. Provides direction and supervises other research nurses and other support members (eg., Phlebotomist). Performs related responsibilities. Employees may work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

Research related duties: Per protocol, screen potential patients for protocol eligibility, complete informed consent, provide patient care, conduct procedures, collect data, report and manage patient/subject study data. Ensure the safe and precise conduct of each study, compliance with study protocols, data quality and maintenance of meticulous study records.

Clinic nursing related duties: Provide basic patient care and treatment per protocol or as requested by investigator/physician; ensure Good Clinical Practices. Explain diagnostic procedures and method of research treatment. Identify and suggest quality improvement measures.

Administrative Duties: Development and approval of study subject orders from a nursing/patient safety standpoint. Manage and supervise research nurse staff and phlebotomist. Develop and approve nursing policies and procedures, including research nurse staff development and certifications. Provide direction to unit coordinator and director in auditing and monitoring research activities. May assign or supervise other professional (e.g., faculty, non-CTRU nurses) and technical staff (e.g., students, trainees, non-CTRU study staff).
