Disability Services collaborates with administrators, faculty and staff to ensure that reasonable and appropriate accommodations are provided to those individuals with disabilities. Disability Services offers the appropriate auxiliary aids and services to assist otherwise qualified persons in achieving access to its programs, services and facilities. Disability Services is seeking to hire an Administrative Specialist, Administrative who will provide expertise and insight to the use and implementation of assistive technology.  The scope of responsibility will include the following duties but is not limited to the following,

  • Develop and implement policies/procedures, as relates to disability and usage of assistive technology across multiple campus departments

  • Conduct a needs assessment for students with disabilities and recommend appropriate auxiliary aids for them

  • Provide accessibility consultation to multiple campus partners involved in procurement and deployment of campus-wide systems such as learning platforms, data management applications, HR software and antivirus products

  • Research on new and existing adaptive technology to stay up to date and make purchase recommendations which are best suited to student's needs

  • Collaborate campus wide to provide training on the use of adaptive technology and federal mandate compliance to faculty and staff who work with students with disabilities

  • Make budget recommendations and proposals in view of the assistive technology needs of the students Disability Services serves

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations for student assistants who serve as note takers and lab assistants which includes conducting orientation, facilitating the hiring and termination of note takers and updating policies and procedures. It also includes providing support to students with disabilities seeking to utilize note taker services

  • Coordinates and schedules training for students using and providing note taking services

  • Work with other Office of Disability Services staff to ensure students have training and access to pertinent assistive technology. e.g. AMAC

  • Coordinates computer systems, technology, and lab assistance

  • Coordinates CIDI tech services

  • Reports any malfunctions with software and hardware to appropriate resources

  •  Acts as a liaison between the department and other computer labs on campus

  • Supervises a student assistant and facilitates basic training to students on the use of assistive technology

  • Oversees the equipment loan program for the adaptive technology and computer labs

  • Ensures test are transliterated into accessible formats

  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental and campus-wide disability related programming

  • Assists with test proctoring

  • Designs departmental newsletter, flyers, and brochures

  • Maintains departmental webpage

  • Maintains Online Disability Resource Center

  • Maintains computer database

  • Assists in designing new systems relating to policy changes and office automation, makes recommendations for their solutions

  • Perform other professional duties as assigned

This position will travel to multiple campuses. 




QualificationsBachelor's degree and two years of administrative experience; or a high school diploma or GED and six years administrative experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips.
