Position Status Full Time If part time, hours per week What you will do:

The Learning Support Specialist (Math) plays a critical role in supporting NLU students and in doing so, the support specialist staff encourages students to take an active role in their education and empowers students to become independent, lifelong learners. The primary responsibility is to tutor students in the fundamental skills of math, statistics and preferably Accounting at the Chicago campus. Tutoring occurs through one-on-one appointments and in small workshops utilizing various modes, including in-person, by phone, as well as via email and video conferencing software.The math specialist will help monitor and communicate the progress of students who are identified as below-level in their math skills and accurately track student tutoring usage.

Outcomes:

The Learning Support Specialist:
• Tutors for general education math courses, at the College Math, College Algebra, Statistics and Math Content for Teachers levels.
• Collaborates with faculty to support at-risk students. Conducts classes at the beginning of each term, responding to faculty alerts, and provides embedded support in online courses.
• Creates and presents math workshops/webinars to support students in their math classes and improve their skills.
• Monitors and tracks student progress and usage of tutoring services.

Your Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Math or closely related field.
  • Must have experience tutoring or teaching math-related skills and content along with knowledge of graphing calculators and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, concepts from College Math, College Algebra, Statistics, Math Content for Teachers and Accounting.
