POSITION SUMMARY:

Indiana Wesleyan University and the Division of Music is seeking applications from qualified individuals to apply for the position of Athletic Bands Director. Successful candidates will show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, comfort with the Wesleyan perspective, and a commitment to liberal learning as well as a fully integrated life of faith and work, embracing God’s purpose individually and collaboratively. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Chair, Division of Music

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Earned Master’s degree in Music or candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with commensurate experience will be considered

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will direct and administrate the IWU Marching Wildcats, an ensemble that will begin in the Fall of 2021. The candidate’s responsibilities include creative drill-writing techniques, managing staff and working with the Division of Music as well as the IWU Athletic Department. This individual will also direct the IWU Concert Band and will direct and administrate the IWU Wildcat Pep Band (Basketball). Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, the area of specialization, and departmental needs. The person filling this position will be a visible student recruiter for the IWU Division of Music and support the bands and other instrumental ensembles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Displayed success leading marching bands at the high school and/or collegiate levels.
  • Successful experience arranging music for winds and percussion, writing marching band drill, keeping inventory, budget management and experience developing student leaders is required.
